2005 Coachmencross Country Se Series M-372 Ds-300hp Reviews

Topic: Cantankerous Country SE....Opinions expert or bad?
Posted By: 1492 on 06/12/05 01:34am Looking to buy a new high finish gasser or entry level diesel.

I'1000 interested in the Coachmen (Sport Motorbus) Cantankerous Country, and would appreciate whatever owner feedback. Particularly interested in opinions of the Cross State's treatment, and the Cummins ISC300/Allison five SPD. philharmonic. Is the ability adequate? What type of MPG are you getting?

Reviews and forum posts on other boards have indicated that the Cummins ISC300 (600 ft-lbs) apparently outperforms the CAT C-7 300HP (860 ft-lbs) on a Freightliner chassis...better performance, and meliorate MPG. One review challenge 10.v MPG - sounds high for a new rig? But, certainly better than what I've read initial GM 8.1L gas MPG of five.five to 6.5 MPG.

Likewise, for those who have previous experience with GM's viii.1L Workhorse W20/22 platforms, how exercise they compare to the Cummins ISC/Allison philharmonic...treatment, and power?[emoticon]

Posted Past: BaldyD1 on 06/12/05 07:35am The diesel will exist the better of the two fuel choices. The Cross Land is a proficient entry level diesel with a skillful history. The diesel engine [ISB 5.9L not ISC] Cummins has been around a long time and some manufacturers employ it in some MHs larger/heavier than the Coachmen Cross Land. The engine and transmission combination is not the best, but even so better than any gas powered MHs with either a 4 speed or 5 speed manual. Believe the fuel milage may be in the 9 to 10 MPG range. Nosotros have been totally satisfied with Coachmen and our MH, and believe that Coachmen products are built with very skillful quality. Edited to add "any" into the fourth sentence.

Posted By: Big Katuna on 06/12/05 08:10am Look at Holmanrv in Cincinati, OH. I bought a 05 Fleetwood Expedition for 30% off MSRP. 300 CAT/Allison six speed. For the money y'all relieve, y'all can purchase some extra fuel. They are a good agglomeration of people and I highly recommend dealing with them. They have units on rvtraderonline as well every bit their own website holmanrv.com. I am getting eight going 68mph.
My Kharma ran over my Dogma.
Posted Past: CH-47C Driver on 06/12/05 x:08am We have had our 04 CC since November of 04 and have found the ability more than adequate. We pull a Jeep Wrangler and the handling is superb, I have never seen this kind of turning radius earlier. If someone is getting over 8.5 mpg then they well-nigh be going downhill the whole way. I go along very good track of all my mileage, I practice mountain and seaside driving and have never gotten improve than 8.5. I have found that if you exceed 2500 RPM your mileage will suffer profoundly. This normally puts you around 68-70 mph. If yous want to become as fast out westward as everyone else you volition pay the toll at the pump. I have had information technology drop as depression equally v.5 when I accept gotten in a hurry.
As far as the motorbus goes that is a different thing. I have had to accept the coach dorsum to dealer after every trip nosotros accept taken. Later our terminal trip we wrote the manufacture virtually our concerns and they called the dealer and allowed an all-encompassing investigation of our coach which took a month to complete. I was pretty happy that they went to such length. We have not taken a trip since then, but I practice run my generator in one case a calendar week and the last fourth dimension I was at that place I discover that the mirror on the wall behind the slide has come unattached from the wall so much for happiness. Thank God the slide was in or the mirror would have fallen on the floor and broke. I hope it'south just mine but, the quality control on my coach was horrible. Nosotros have had drawer slides intermission repeatedly(They finally replaced them all) The slide connected to creep out(until they finally replaced the motor) The back up camera monitor failed, The AM/FM/CD thespian quit, The dash board fell out(don't even inquire)The base of the shower stall was non sufficiently reinforced and the shower drain separated causing water to flow into the electronics bay beneath(don't go there either). In that location is a stationary exterior panel just pass the entry door, information technology came loose while driving. And the listing goes on. Make sure you go over the omnibus, and I guess this should go far whatever coach with a fine eye. I would push, pull, and shake anything and everything and if it doesn't feel correct make your dealer set up it then

Posted By: LHyzer on 06/12/05 eleven:00am Nosotros own the Cross Country SE and are very happy with information technology. We have had a few bug with information technology but cypher major. Any and all the problems we had were accost past Coachmen and taken intendance of to my satisfaction.
I think that no matter what brand etc you buy there will be some fit and finish items come upwards needing attention. And this goes for the high dollar units equally well.
Soon this unit meets our needs and performs well on the road.It is really a pleasure to drive and the air suspension makes a world of departure in the ride and handling of the unit.
With the service you get from Coachmen and the cost of the unit I experience that y'all are getting your money's worth.
Only then again this is just my opinion of this unit.

We just purchased an '05 CC 354MBS. DW noticed the poor support under the shower enclosure. All of the other things you mentioned, we experienced in our previous Jayco Class C. Mirrors, Wall Paper boarders not staying attached etc. What did the dealer exercise to fix the shower enclusure? I want to exist able to tell our dealer exactly what is needed to shorten the wait for repairs. Thanks in advance for your respond.

I think you are disruptive a Cummins ISB with an ISC. The ISC has style more than torque than 600 lbs.

Posted Past: HD Bob & Deb on 06/20/05 10:14pm We sold our Workhorse (34' GBM Landau) and now have a 2004 Cross Country 372SE so I think I can answer your questions. Performance wise the 2 are very similiar. On most hills they both climb at about the same speed. On very steep grades (7%) the Workhorse 8.ane has the advantage since y'all accept more than available engine RPM to work with (4,500 vs. 2,700). Both will be in 3rd gear on this steep of a hill merely the Cummins volition be topped out at 45 MPH (two,700 RPM) while you lot can button the viii.one to over 4,000 RPM and 55 MPH if you lot want. The BIG difference is the noise or lack there of on the diesel. The rear engine DP is very tranquillity going upward hill (all the time for that matter), where the viii.one volition exist screaming away so the cooling fan volition engage and you won't be able to talk to each other until it disengages. The longer the hill climb, the longer it takes to disengage. In hot atmospheric condition it volition cycle in and out constantly. This and the crappy ride from the Workhorse suspension (yes, we did the stupor change matter) was why nosotros got rid of it and got the DP. The air suspension of the Freightliner is VASTLY superior to the Workhorse suspension. The Cummins will climb modest grades in 5th gear where the eight.one will e'er downshift to 4th to climb any form. As for the coach itself, we did a very thorough inspection and iii test drives and presented a list of things to be fixed earlier we signed. Most were fit and finish issues but a not-working frazzle brake (broken wire) and low bombardment voltage (bad alternator) were the majors. Later all was fixed, nosotros took delivery, have made several trips, and nothing further has gone wrong. Milage has been between 8.5 and x.5 depending on mountains. I'm always towing so speed has been effectually 62 MPH. Our Workhorse got 7.v in the same conditions. Both coaches handled well however the wife likes driving the CC better. Going over Hwy 50 to Lake Tahoe I found the CC very nimble and easy to drive this curvy mountain road. On the steep descent toward Carson Metropolis the frazzle brake held the autobus at 45 MPH in tertiary gear without touching the restriction. By the way, as noted higher up, the engine is the 5.9 ISB (300 HP & 600 lbs torque) with the Allison MH2500 5 speed transmission. If you have any specific questions feel free to PM me.

Bob

Posted By: coloradodave on 06/twenty/05 10:34pm We bought our Coachmen MH from B&B RV in Denver, very nice folks. If you lot buy a DP from them they will fly y'all in from anywhere in North America. They have pretty competitive prices as well. Much ameliorate prices than annihilation we establish in Colorado Springs. So far we have been happy with the sales/service from them. Only a few minor corrective things that had to be fixed on our MH, nothing major. My MH is on the Ford chassis, got 8.5 on my final tank of gas with a mix of driving highway/urban center. They carry the complete line of Coachmen gas and DP'south. Good luck, and let us know what you decide on!

Posted By: chring on 06/21/05 04:56am I second that suggestion that you consider looking at Holman RV. The Expedition by all rights is an entry level DP simply has more than ability and a better tranny combo. The problem with the Ally 5 speed is that torque on whatever diesel engine ( reagrdless of its size ) will ever be limited to 600 ft lbs. regardless of the engines max ability output. The 5 speed transmission is the limiting gene in any engine philharmonic.

I take looked at the Coachman Cross State and its a nice double-decker and I experience the price is very competetive. While I have naught against the Coachmen models, I merely feel that if I spend the extra dollars to go with a DP, I want to be able to utilise it to its full potential and not be express on its power by a transmission. I do want to say that regardless of what manual information technology is as long equally its an Allison your going to be in good shape. They are an extremely stout tranny and the v speed does its task very well. In that location isnt anything wrong with the v speed except that its designed to be used with an engine that either produces less torque or has its torque output limited/derated. To some people this is not a limiting factor or a trouble.

I but wanted to clear that outcome up. I am non knocking the Ally 5 speed or the Coachman product. Both are fine.

Posted By: undr60 on 06/22/05 08:29pm I purchased a 2004 Cross Country 376 se in January of this twelvemonth. I recently took the maiden voyage from MN to Colorado, Utah Arizona and New Mexico. I drove about 4000 miles. It is a pleasure to drive. The treatment and performance are both ameliorate than expected. My previous unit was a 97 Minnie Winnie. I always got effectually 6 mpg in the Minnie, simply with the Cross Country I averaged 9 for the 4,000 mile trip. I towed a 2004 Subaru Forester. I collection about l% freeway and the rest on 2 lane roads. I can never empathise why people become so concerned about performance driving up mountains. I was able to maintain 45 to l mph upwardly about passes. This is certainly adequate. Likewise, the amount of time yous spend going uphill is minimal. I doubt I actually spent more than 10% of the trip going upward grades more 5%. I agree with the previous post regarding engine noise. It is a huge improvement having the engine in the rear. Now the only dissonance I have to deal with is minimal noise when the air conditioner is operating.

HD Bob & Deb, I specially appreciate the comparison info. as this was exactly what I was looking for. I'll definitely PM you with some questions in the future.

I'm likewise because the 06'Bounder, and will definitely proceed Holman RV in listen.
Certainly, refeshing to notice a dealer y'all dont have to play pricing games with.

Didn't know about the Allison five-spd torque limit at 600ft-lbs. Would explain why at that place are no Banks upgrades on the ISB/5sp combo.

I'1000 even so leaning toward the Cantankerous Country 376SE. I think Coachmen gives y'all a lot for your money. And they seem responsive to fixing problems under warranty.
Both CAT and Cummins make very good diesels. I still believe Cummins has the advantage where MPG is concerned. Also, if I'yard not mistaken, isn't Cummins commencement engine service is at 175K for valve adjustment? Doesn't CAT requires this service at 5K, which I never quite understood?

That is truthful. That is i reason I have always leaned to a Cummins. Those valve adjustment can get pretty expensive, only as yous said both engines are very good diesels. They both have in that location advantages and disadvantages. Adept luck on your decision!

Posted By: Vi PENCE on 06/22/05 09:36pm Nosotros are soon at Newmar Kountry Klub International Rally in Salem, Oregon where Newmar premiered their new entry level diesel pusher, the Ventana. 36' and 39'. 300hp Cummins. Look fine, dissimilar look than their other DP'south. MSRP $185,00 which means you should be able to buy the 39' for about $150K. I think they have it on NewmarCorp website.
