How to Improve Sound of Blue Ray Discs Playes on Ps4

When I used to watch blu ray movies on my PS3. The sound was so great and even the picture. But I don't see that with my PS4. The volume level is at 16 and I barely hear a good sound coming from my PS4 blu ray movie and with my PS3. Not even the volume level was higher than 8 and the sound was so great. What is the best blu ray settings to use in the PS4? I have checked the settings but it was kind confusing and not much options to select out there.

I'm not sure what your setup contains but for bluray make sure after you start the movie to hit OPTIONS button (Thanks Libra), and it will come up with audio settings for movies. Best setting if you have a good AVR would be Bitstream. That will allow your AVR to decode the sound packet and display the HD sound on the AVR display. What setting was your ps3 on? PCM or Bitstream. I've not found any difference between my ps3 and ps4 sound level or quality. Only weird thing I may have noticed is the ps4 seems to have more trouble with scratched blurays than my ps3. Could just be an oddity though.

It's actually the "options" button that is used in this case, not "triangle".

I don't see much options in the settings as only 1 or 2. I will try in the main menu when the movie plays.

I keep hearing in reviews that ps4 is not as good a BD player as ps3 was.

I've found it loads movies faster than my PS3 did so that's a definite plus for the PS4. Other than the scratched bluray playback quality I mentioned above, I guess I can't really agree that its overall "not as good". I'd need to read more of those reviews and see what they are basing that on. I definitely think Sony will be addressing any bluray issues via future firmware updates so I'm sure it'll get better with anything that is supposedly glaring right now.

I agree. The PS4 blue ray is bad and Sony will need to fix it as soon as possible because i stopped watching movies on my PS4 and now I use my PS3. Its so bad and no video options at all.

I've only watched one blu-ray since getting my ps4 which was Man of Steel. It was in 7.1 surround sound and it sounded excellent. Picture was great as well. Haven't watched any other movies though, so can't say beyond that.

Since I changed the audio settings everything (picture/audio quality) seems on par with the PS3 or better (for 1080p blu-ray). Can't complain.

I ran a few of my Planet Earth box set discs through the PS4 after reading on here that the PS4 didn't play blue rays that well, can't say I noticed any difference in picture or audio quality..

For 1080p content it's identical to the PS3, which is to say it's a perfect reproduction. It's for other formats such as 1080i (which would be an extreme rarity, but a possibility to find on some personal recorded or non-standard recorded content) that it's not as good because the PS4 will upscale it to 1080p and then rescale if needed for the TV output and the video scaling currently used isn't as good as the PS3's.

This was discussed when the article was published saying the PS4 doesn't have a good of BD playback as PS3, which failed to mention in the title that if you have 1080p content it's exactly the same, but does mention that fact in the article itself.
